Practice and Feedback

Learning Objective
Consider the age, strengths and challenges, family values and the learner’s life and career goals in order to choose the appropriate development profile.
Context
Bianca’s team has chosen the areas that will be the subject of an in-depth assessment. Mrs. Melanson, the resource teacher, must now select the development profile appropriate to Bianca’s needs.
Instructions
Using the information from the Context in Step 2, note how Bianca’s age, strengths and challenges, family values, and her life and career goals influence the choice of the development profile. Use this document to consider key factors and choose the appropriate development profile.

Factors | Notes | Appropriate Developmental Profile |
---|---|---|
Learner’s age | Bianca is 9 years old. This age represents the lower limit of the Level 2 group (9 – 12 years old). The team could therefore consider the Level 1 profile (0 - 8 years old) if they believe that the skills seem more appropriate to Bianca's needs. | Level 1 or 2 |
Learner's strengths and challenges in relation to the chosen area | Bianca has no particular strengths or challenges in the chosen areas. A different development profile is therefore not necessary. | Level 1 or 2 |
Family values | The skills in the sub-areas targeted by the parents (Toileting and Hygiene, Bathing and Sleeping Habits) are included in the Level 2 profile and correspond well to Bianca’s needs. | Level 2 |
Learner’s life and career goals | The skills included in the Level 2 profile are appropriate for Bianca's current life and career goals. | Level 2 |
Development profile chosen: Level 2
